Our Mission
A vital library is essential to a thriving community. Its presence says something positive about its citizens and leaders. A vital library promotes literacy and self-enrichment, thereby enriching the community. Its resources also promote equality. In our community where 20 percent of families live at or below the poverty level, the library provides equal access and opportunity to all.
As we move into this library's second century, the board of directors of your Charleston Carnegie Public Library does so with a bold plan and a solemn promise--a commitment to continue the legacy of those earlier citizens who put their hearts into building this cultural touchstone and historic landmark.
